Healthcare Near Middleton, FL: The New AdventHealth Offices, the Closest ERs and Hospitals, and Real Drive Times

AdventHealth opened its first offices inside Middleton this week, which is good news and also an easy thing to misread. This guide separates what is downtown from what is a drive away, with the nearest ERs and hospitals, measured drive times and the projects still on paper.

What healthcare is near Middleton, FL?

As of November 2026, Downtown Middleton has new AdventHealth specialty offices and a dental practice, but no ER or urgent care. The closest 24/7 ERs are UF Health Brownwood (about 21 minutes) and HCA Trailwinds Village in Wildwood (about 26). The closest hospitals are UF Health Leesburg (26 minutes) and Spanish Plaines (39).

The short version

  • AdventHealth opened specialty offices on Alder Avenue in Downtown Middleton on November 2, 2026; they take appointments and are not an ER.
  • The nearest 24/7 ER by our estimate is UF Health Brownwood Freestanding ER, about 21 minutes from Downtown Middleton.
  • UF Health Leesburg Hospital (26 minutes) is closer in time than UF Health Spanish Plaines Hospital (39 minutes).
  • A combined UF Health ER and urgent care is coming to 3849 Thomas Street in Oxford, with no opening date yet.
  • Measure the drive from your exact homesite and confirm your insurance network before you choose.

What healthcare is inside Middleton, FL right now?

As of November 2026, Downtown Middleton has four AdventHealth Medical Group specialty practices on Alder Avenue (pediatrics, urogynecology, pediatric and adult congenital cardiology, and pediatric orthopedic surgery coming in 2027), plus Buffalo Run Dental Care. Dermatology and orthodontics are announced. None of these is an emergency room or a walk-in urgent care.

Middleton's own news page, Middleton welcomes AdventHealth, dated November 2, 2026, announced two AdventHealth locations in the downtown district, branded AdventHealth for Women and AdventHealth for Children. Behind those two names sit four specialty practices, each with its own address and start date:

AdventHealth practices in Downtown Middleton, as published November 2, 2026

AdventHealth Medical Group Pediatric and Adult Congenital Cardiology at Middleton2268 Alder AvenueDecember 12, 2026
AdventHealth Medical Group Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery at MiddletonNot yet publishedEarly 2027

Each practice lists its own phone number on that page, and Middleton's post asks you to call to book. These are appointment-based specialty offices. Nothing on the page describes walk-in hours, after-hours care or emergency services, so do not plan around them for a sudden illness or injury.

One small conflict worth knowing: the Downtown Middleton directory still showed AdventHealth as Coming Soon on November 6, 2026, four days after the news post said the offices were open. The news post is newer and more specific, so this guide follows it, but call before you go.

Dental, dermatology and orthodontics

  • Buffalo Run Dental Care is open at 7587 Middleton Drive, by appointment only, according to its Middleton announcement. That post and the downtown directory print different phone numbers, so use the practice's own website to confirm.
  • Care Dermatology and Skin Cancer Center and Betancur Orthodontics are both announced for downtown, and both already operate elsewhere in the area. Middleton's announcement gives no opening date, and the directory lists both as Coming Soon.

For everything else that is open or announced downtown, from groceries to the barber, see our Downtown Middleton open and coming soon guide.

Where is the closest emergency room to Middleton, FL?

The nearest 24/7 emergency room by our estimate is UF Health Brownwood Freestanding ER at 3800 Meggison Road in The Villages, about 12.7 miles and 21 minutes from Downtown Middleton in free-flowing traffic. HCA Florida Trailwinds Village Emergency in Wildwood is next, about 15 miles and 26 minutes. In an emergency, call 911.

There is no emergency room inside Middleton as of November 2026. The closest options are freestanding ERs, which are emergency departments that sit apart from a hospital building but are operated by one. Here is how they compare from Downtown Middleton:

UF Health Brownwood Freestanding ER is a 25,000-square-foot facility open 24 hours a day with trauma bays, CT and X-ray, a lab and respiratory therapy, per its UF Health page. HCA Florida Trailwinds Village Emergency is open around the clock, treats adults and children, and lists a designated trauma treatment room, dedicated CT rooms and lab services on HCA Florida's location page.

AdventHealth Fruitland Park ER held its ribbon cutting in July 2026 and was scheduled to start seeing patients by July 28, with 12 private rooms, one designed for children, according to Lake and Sumter Style. AdventHealth's own newsroom blocked our automated check, so we could not confirm its address or hours from the source; it is in Lake County, and we did not measure its drive time.

Both the hospitals and the freestanding ERs say the same thing on their pages: if you are having an emergency, call 911. This guide describes what exists and where. It does not rate care or tell you which door to use for a given situation; that is a question for your doctor.

Which hospitals are closest to Middleton, FL?

By measured drive time, UF Health Leesburg Hospital (about 26 minutes) and UF Health Spanish Plaines Hospital in The Villages (about 39 minutes) are the closest full hospitals to Downtown Middleton. AdventHealth Waterman in Tavares is about 45 minutes, and the Ocala and Brooksville hospitals run 51 to 54 minutes.

Here is the full hospital list from our commute times page, measured from Downtown Middleton with free-flow routing (no traffic), sorted by time:

The surprise for most people is the first two rows. Spanish Plaines is the hospital most associated with The Villages, but Leesburg is closer in time from Middleton because the route runs out CR 470 and US 27 rather than north through The Villages on Bexley Trail and Morse Boulevard.

UF Health Spanish Plaines Hospital opened in 2002 as The Villages Regional Hospital and is now a 307-bed acute care hospital, according to UF Health's history page, which also describes a Chest Pain Center accreditation from the American College of Cardiology. Its emergency room at 1451 El Camino Real runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, per the ER page. A July 2026 WUSF report described it as a 315-bed hospital that opened in 2022; UF Health's own figures differ, and we use those.

UF Health Leesburg Hospital, at 600 E Dixie Avenue, describes a large open-heart program, robotic-assisted surgery, orthopaedics, stroke treatment and emergency care on its UF Health page. UF Health's history page dates the Leesburg hospital, originally Leesburg Regional Medical Center, to 1963.

We do not rank these hospitals or compare outcomes. If quality matters to your decision, your own physician and your insurer are better places to start than a real estate site.

Is there urgent care near Middleton, FL?

Not inside Middleton as of November 2026. The nearest announced option is UF Health Emergency and Urgent Care Center, Wildwood, a combined 24/7 ER and urgent care at 3849 Thomas Street in Oxford, about 27 minutes away by our estimate. Its page still says Coming Soon, with no opening date published.

UF Health's Wildwood center page describes a single building that will run both an emergency room and an urgent care, each 24/7, on Thomas Street near US 301 and County Road 466, between Wildwood and The Villages. It lists pediatric care, in-house lab testing and on-site X-ray, and it says the center will be part of UF Health Leesburg Hospital.

A UF Health Magazine article on the groundbreaking adds the scale: 14,410 square feet, 14 treatment rooms, a lab, and a radiology suite with X-ray and CT, built with Dallas-based IntuitiveHealth. The idea of the combined model is that patients are seen at the right level without having to choose between ER and urgent care at the door. Neither page gives an opening date as of November 6, 2026.

Name check. The center is branded Wildwood, but its published address is 3849 Thomas Street, Oxford, FL 34484. If you are giving directions or plugging it into a map, use the street address, not the name.

For the time being, the nearby walk-in clinics we found were listed only on booking and directory sites, not on pages from the clinics themselves, so we have left them out rather than print hours we could not confirm. Your insurance plan's provider directory is the most reliable way to find an in-network urgent care near your address.

What new hospitals and ERs are planned near Middleton?

Two projects matter most. UF Health's combined ER and urgent care on Thomas Street in Oxford is under construction with no opening date. AdventHealth has announced an 80-bed hospital at Legacy Place along Florida's Turnpike, with construction expected in 2027 and a projected 2030 opening, per a July 2026 WUSF report.

The AdventHealth hospital is the long-range piece. WUSF reported in July 2026 that it would sit on 25 acres as the anchor of Legacy Place, a 700-acre mixed-use development by The Villages and Benderson Development, and would offer emergency, surgical and inpatient care. AdventHealth's own newsroom did not allow our automated check, so treat the details as reported, not confirmed, and expect them to move: hospital timelines usually do.

The Fruitland Park ER is a good example of how these dates drift. When construction was announced in January 2025, Villages-News said it was expected to open in early 2026. The ribbon cutting came in July 2026.

How should you check healthcare access for a specific Middleton home?

Measure from the actual homesite, not the sales center. Middleton spans several phases, and a few minutes either way can change which ER is closest. Run the drive at the hour you would most likely need it, confirm which systems your insurance covers, and recheck the opening status of anything still marked coming soon.

Every time in this guide starts at Downtown Middleton, the same origin our commute times page uses. A homesite on the far edge of a newer phase can add several minutes to any of these routes, and free-flow estimates do not include school-zone, rush-hour or event traffic.

  1. Drive it once. From the lot you are considering, drive to the nearest ER and to the hospital you would most likely use. Do it on a weekday afternoon, not a Sunday morning.
  2. Check your network. The nearby options belong to three different systems: UF Health, AdventHealth and HCA Florida. Your insurer, not a real estate agent, can tell you which ones are in network for your plan.
  3. Find your doctors first. If you see a specialist now, ask where they practice locally before you pick a side of the county.
  4. Recheck the coming-soon list. The UF Health center in Oxford and the downtown dermatology office were both unopened on November 6, 2026.

Veterans have one more stop to plan: the VA clinic in The Villages and the county's veteran services office. Our veteran resources guide has the addresses, hours and drive times. If you are still deciding between communities, our Middleton vs The Villages comparison puts the cost structure and rules side by side.

The local take

I was born and raised in Marion County. Healthcare is the part of the move people research last and wish they had researched first.

Here is the trade-off most buyers miss. The new AdventHealth offices are a real convenience close to home. But they are specialty practices with appointments, not an ER. Your emergency math in Middleton today is still a drive of about 20 minutes or more, and the full hospitals are farther than many people assume: Leesburg before Spanish Plaines, not the other way around.

When I help a buyer compare homesites, I pull the drive from that exact lot to the nearest ER and to their likely hospital, at the time of day that matters to them. If two floor plans are close on price, a few minutes on that drive can be a fair tiebreaker. I also tell people not to buy on a promise. A hospital projected for 2030 is a plan, not a building, and the Fruitland Park ER opened months later than first announced.

As an independent buyer's agent, I am not tied to the builder's sales team, so I can tell you which side of Middleton puts you closer to the care you actually use, and what the fees and true monthly cost look like on each option.

Frequently asked questions

Are the new AdventHealth offices in Middleton walk-in clinics?

No walk-in hours are published. Middleton's November 2, 2026 announcement lists four AdventHealth Medical Group specialty practices on Alder Avenue and asks you to call each one to schedule. They are pediatrics, urogynecology, pediatric and adult congenital cardiology, and pediatric orthopedic surgery, which is expected in early 2027.

Is UF Health Brownwood Freestanding ER open 24 hours?

Yes. UF Health's page for the Brownwood Freestanding ER at 3800 Meggison Road says it offers care 24 hours a day, with CT and X-ray imaging, a laboratory, respiratory therapy and trauma bays. It operates as part of UF Health Spanish Plaines Hospital. Call 911 in an emergency.

Does Middleton have its own hospital?

No. As of November 2026, Middleton has specialty medical and dental offices downtown but no hospital or emergency room. The closest full hospitals by measured drive time are UF Health Leesburg Hospital, about 26 minutes away, and UF Health Spanish Plaines Hospital in The Villages, about 39 minutes away.

When will the UF Health Emergency and Urgent Care Center in Wildwood open?

UF Health has not published an opening date. Its page still read Coming Soon on November 6, 2026. The center is at 3849 Thomas Street in Oxford, near US 301 and County Road 466, and will run a 24/7 emergency room and urgent care under one roof.

Can Middleton residents use the hospitals and ERs in The Villages?

The hospitals and ERs in this guide are run by UF Health, AdventHealth and HCA Florida, and their pages describe serving the surrounding communities, not only Villages residents. Network rules come from your insurance plan, not your address. Confirm coverage with your insurer before you choose a provider.

Is the AdventHealth hospital at Legacy Place approved and under construction?

As of a July 2026 WUSF report, AdventHealth had announced the 80-bed hospital, with site clearing and road work underway at Legacy Place, hospital construction expected to begin in 2027 and a projected 2030 opening. We could not confirm details on AdventHealth's own site, so treat the timeline as projected.
