Where can you play golf near Middleton, FL?
Middleton has no golf course of its own. Public or non-member play is published at Continental Country Club in Wildwood, three Leesburg clubs, two Lady Lake courses and The Links Club in Summerfield. Nearby Villages courses, including Shallow Creek, are built around Villages residents, and no official source grants Middleton residents access.
The short version
- Middleton's published amenities include no golf course, putting green or range.
- Shallow Creek (18 holes, par 70) and the Central Lake Golf Academy sit next door in The Villages' Eastport area; no official page says Middleton residents can book them.
- The Villages ties free executive golf and country club membership to Villages residents and the Villages ID; Middleton's October 2026 cost sheet has no amenity fee.
- Public options include Continental Country Club in Wildwood and The Monarch, Arlington Ridge and The Plantation in Leesburg; November 2026 rounds at The Monarch run $30 to $65.
- Linx Golf Bar, a simulator and putting bar at 101 S Main St in Wildwood, is reported to be targeting a mid-November 2026 opening.
Is there a golf course in Middleton, FL?
No. Middleton's own amenity list covers pools, pickleball and basketball courts, dog parks, trails and open space, with no golf course or putting green. The closest golf is next door in Eastport: the Central Lake Golf Academy and driving range, plus Shallow Creek, an 18-hole championship course. Both are Villages facilities, and their access rules for Middleton residents are unpublished.
As of November 2026, the recreation page on mymiddleton.com lists parks, a splash pad and pools, and the homepage names pools, basketball and pickleball courts, dog parks and open spaces. Golf shows up on Middleton's site mainly as golf cars, the way people get around. For the full park-by-park list, see our Middleton parks and pools guide.
Two golf facilities sit just outside the community, and Middleton's own marketing points to both:
- Central Lake Golf Academy and driving range (Eastport). Middleton's November 2025 news post, Swing into fun at Eastport, describes a golf shop with the range and academy beside it, academy hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, and the phone 352-753-6659. The July 2026 Phase 9 announcement lists the academy under recreation for that phase.
- Shallow Creek Golf Club. The Villages lists it as an 18-hole, par 70 championship course at 8007 Landstone Boulevard in the Village of Moultrie Creek. Middleton's July 2024 post calls it a golf car ride away.
Neither page says who may book. That gap is the whole story of golf in Middleton, and the next section takes it on directly.
Can Middleton residents play golf at The Villages courses?
Not on the terms Villages residents get, based on what is published. The Villages says its residents automatically get free country club membership and free executive golf, and booking runs through a Villages ID. Middleton's October 2026 cost sheet lists no Villages amenity fee, and no official page grants Middleton residents a Villages ID or golf privileges.
Here is what the official sources say, as of November 2026:
- The Villages golf rates page says Villagers play executive courses free and residents of The Villages automatically get country club membership. Guests of residents pay a green fee, and a trail fee applies to golf car use.
- The tee time page describes a system built to give Villagers fair access, with requests taken four to seven days out and reservations one to three days out.
- The Villages golf guide calls the Villages ID the passport to participation. It limits guest status to people whose home address is outside Lake, Sumter and Marion counties, and says a guest who does not qualify pays the non-resident greens fee. A Middleton address is in Sumter County. The guide carries a 2023 date, so confirm it is current.
- Middleton's October 2026 cost of living sheet lists utilities, insurance, taxes and district assessments, and no amenity fee.
One caution: the Middleton page on thevillages.com shows a generic block advertising a $189 monthly amenity fee that includes free executive golf. The page never says that applies to Middleton, and Middleton's own cost sheet does not include it. Forum posts make confident claims both ways. None of them is an official source.
Same developer, different community: Middleton is developed by The Villages Development Company, LLC, but it is not part of The Villages. Our explainer on who develops Middleton and what is not shared covers the rest, and the Middleton vs The Villages comparison lays out the cost structures side by side. If golf access decides your purchase, get the answer in writing from The Villages golf office before you sign.
Where can you play public golf near Middleton, FL?
The nearest courses that publish public or non-member play are Continental Country Club in Wildwood, three Leesburg clubs (The Monarch at Royal Highlands, Arlington Ridge and The Plantation at Leesburg), Harbor Hills and Water Oak in Lady Lake, and The Links Club at Spruce Creek South in Summerfield. Call ahead, because status and booking rules change.
| Course | Where | Holes | Public access, per the course | Tee times |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Continental Country Club | 50 Continental Blvd, Wildwood | 18 | Site says semi-private with the public invited (another page says private) | 352-748-3293 |

For a sense of distance, our measured Middleton drive times put downtown Wildwood at 21 minutes and downtown Leesburg at 25 minutes. Course-by-course times are not measured here, so check the exact drive in your maps app from the homesite you are considering.
A few honest notes on the list:
- Continental Country Club is the only full course inside Wildwood that we confirmed. Its site says it opened in 1972 and was Ron Garl's first design, and it contradicts itself on private versus semi-private, so call the pro shop.
- Pennbrooke Fairways in Leesburg, just east of Brownwood on SR 44, runs 27 holes as three nines and takes tee times at 352-728-3200, but its site does not say whether non-residents can play. It is off the table until the club confirms.
- Not on the list: Legacy of Leesburg has no course, and we found no operating public course in Bushnell or Webster.
How much does a round of golf cost near Middleton?
Published November 2026 prices run from $25 plus tax for a late round at The Plantation at Leesburg to $65 including tax for a morning round at The Monarch at Royal Highlands. Annual memberships at Arlington Ridge and The Plantation start near $3,850 for an individual. Most clubs do not post daily rates, so call.
| Club | What | Price |
|---|---|---|
| The Monarch at Royal Highlands | 18 holes before 11 a.m., November | $65, tax included |
| The Monarch at Royal Highlands | After 11 a.m. / after 3 p.m. / 9 holes, November | $56 / $40 / $30, tax included |
| The Monarch at Royal Highlands | 18 holes before 11 a.m., December | $67, tax included |
| The Plantation at Leesburg | Golf and lunch, public (limited-time special) | $69 plus tax |
| The Plantation at Leesburg | After 3 p.m. (limited-time special) | $25 plus tax |

Prices climb into winter. The Monarch's own rate sheet steps up from November to December and shows higher January to March rates. The Plantation's specials carry no end date, so confirm before you go. The clubs' resident and non-resident membership tiers refer to their own definitions, so ask which one a Middleton address falls under.
Where can you hit balls or practice golf near Middleton?
Oxford Golf Academy, at 4250 CR 105 in Oxford, is open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. with no reservation needed, and winter buckets cost $7, $11 or $15. The Lady Lake Bob Johnson Legacy Driving Range is volunteer-run. Central Lake's range in Eastport is closest, but its access rules are unpublished.
- Oxford Golf Academy. Behind the Walmart on CR 466, phone 352-446-4456. Its price page lists winter rates from November 1 to April 30 and lower summer rates.
- Lady Lake Bob Johnson Legacy Driving Range. 230 Rolling Acres Rd, Lady Lake, 352-753-9878. Its site says volunteers from American Legion Post 347 and a local Lions Club run it, with proceeds going to local charities. Call for hours and prices.
- Central Lake range, Eastport. The Villages practice facilities page lists it as mats only on winter hours: Monday 9 to 5, Tuesday through Saturday 7 to 5, Sunday 7 to 4. Its range address (7034 Beebe Court, 352-753-6658) differs from the Golf Academy listing (7152 Beebe Court, 352-753-6659). No official page says whether non-Villagers can use it.
Coming to downtown Wildwood: local news outlets What Now Tampa and Business Debut report that Linx Golf Bar at 101 S Main St is targeting a mid-November 2026 opening with three simulator bays, a 9-hole putting course and a rooftop bar. We found no official site yet, so treat the date as a target.
Can you drive a golf cart from Middleton to a golf course?
Possibly to Shallow Creek or Central Lake, which Middleton's marketing places a golf car ride away, but no official page confirms which connections into Villages land are open to Middleton carts. Wildwood allows carts only on mapped city streets posted at 30 mph or less. Plan on driving a car to every public course in the table.
Wildwood's 2026 ordinance, covered in detail in our golf cart rules guide, limits carts to streets on the city's golf cart map with limits of 30 mph or less. Crossing into Villages land depends on connections the developer has approved, and none has been published for Middleton as of November 2026.
The public courses in the table sit in Leesburg, Lady Lake, Summerfield and central Wildwood, across county and state roads. Treat them as car trips and budget the time.
What should golfers check before buying in Middleton?
Get the golf access answer in writing, because nothing official grants Middleton residents Villages golf. Then price the golf you will actually play: a public course membership or daily rates near Middleton. Check the garage for a golf car bay, and measure the drive from the specific homesite to the course you would use most.
- Access in writing. Ask The Villages golf office (the tee time line is 352-753-4653) whether a Middleton address can book Shallow Creek, the executive courses or the Central Lake range, and at what rate.
- Your real golf budget. A membership in Leesburg near $3,850 a year, or daily rounds at $40 to $70, belongs in the monthly cost of a Middleton home if golf is part of the plan. Our Middleton vs The Villages comparison helps you set that against the amenity fee model next door.
- The garage. Some Middleton home series include a golf car bay. Our new construction guide covers the series and what to verify.
- The drive. Measure from the homesite, not the gate. Middleton is still being built out phase by phase.
The local take
I was born and raised in Marion County. In Middleton, golf access is the assumption I would test first, because the closest courses are Villages courses and the published rules tie them to a Villages ID.
The trade-off people miss runs in both directions. Middleton's cost sheet has no monthly amenity fee, which is real money saved if you play a few times a month and pay daily rates in Leesburg. If you plan to play four or five days a week, though, a $3,850 membership plus cart and drive time is a different picture, and some buyers would be better served comparing homes inside The Villages. That is a math question, not a sales pitch, and I will run it either way.
What I would check for a golfer: a written answer from The Villages golf office on what a Middleton address can book, the drive from the specific homesite to the course you would join, and whether the home series you like has a golf car bay. As an independent buyer's agent, I do not work for the builder, so my job is to make sure the brochure matches the paperwork.
Frequently asked questions
Is Shallow Creek Golf Club public?
The Villages' Shallow Creek page lists the course as an 18-hole, par 70 championship course at 8007 Landstone Boulevard and gives the phone 352-753-6696, but it does not state who may play. The Villages' rates page ties country club membership to Villages residents. Call the course to ask about a Middleton address before counting on it.
Does Middleton have a monthly amenity fee that includes golf?
Middleton's October 2026 cost of living sheet lists utilities, insurance, property taxes and community development district assessments, and no amenity fee. A $189 amenity fee block appears on a Middleton page on thevillages.com, but that page does not say the fee applies to Middleton. Confirm with the sales office in writing.
Can I join a golf club near Middleton without living in its community?
Yes, at some. Arlington Ridge and The Plantation at Leesburg both publish non-resident membership tiers for the 2026-27 season, starting at $4,443 and $4,450 for an individual. Each club defines resident for itself, so ask which tier a Middleton address falls under.
When is golf season around Wildwood?
Prices tell the story. The Monarch at Royal Highlands posts higher rates for December than November, and higher still from January through March, and Oxford Golf Academy charges winter range rates from November 1 to April 30. Book ahead in winter, when posted prices are at their highest.
Is there mini golf or a golf simulator near Middleton?
Local news outlets report that Linx Golf Bar at 101 S Main St in downtown Wildwood is targeting a mid-November 2026 opening with three golf simulator bays, a 9-hole putting course and a rooftop bar. No official website was found as of November 3, 2026, so check before you go.
