What parks and pools does Middleton, FL have?
As of October 2026, Middleton, the all-ages community in Wildwood, FL, lists five parks: Lake Harlow, Dry Creek, Thurston and Kewadin parks, each with a pool, playground, pickleball and basketball, plus the downtown splash pad. Parks are open 7 a.m. to dusk and the splash pad 10 a.m. to dusk, per the community.
The short version
- Four neighborhood parks (Lake Harlow, Dry Creek, Thurston, Kewadin) each show a pool, pool pavilion, playground, pickleball and basketball on the developer's site plans.
- Lake Harlow Park is the only one with tennis, kayaking and separate large and small dog parks; Thurston adds outdoor fitness stations and a fishing pond.
- Kewadin Park has no dog park on its site plan, which matters if you are choosing a lot in the newer southern phases.
- The resident portal lists park pass and pavilion reservation forms behind a sign-in, so pool access runs through a pass. Confirm guest rules with the Welcome Home Center.
- A new Central Park was announced in July 2025 with no opening date published.

Addresses and hours from the Middleton parks page. Amenities from the labeled site plan renderings on that page and the community's opening announcements. The developer notes its renderings are artist interpretations and subject to change, so treat the amenity columns as the plan, and walk the park before you rely on one feature.
Which Middleton park has tennis, fishing or a dog park?
Lake Harlow Park is the only Middleton park with a tennis court, and it also lists fishing, kayaking and separate large and small dog parks. Thurston Park has a fishing pond, outdoor fitness stations and an off-leash dog park. Dry Creek has a dog park. Kewadin Park shows no dog park on its plan.
Lake Harlow Park, the lakefront one
Lake Harlow Park, at 7492 Priddy Way in the northwest corner of the community, was the first of the four. Middleton held its grand opening in June 2023 and describes a seaside-themed playground. Its announcement lists the widest menu of any park: pool, basketball, corn toss, dog park, fishing, kayaking, pedestrian path, pickleball, playground and tennis. The site plan splits the dog area into a large dog park and a small dog park and shows two picnic pavilions along the shoreline path.
Dry Creek Park, the creekside one
Dry Creek Park, 2455 Alder Avenue, opened in November 2023, per the community's announcement. Its plan sits beside a winding creek on the southwest side, with a pedestrian path that follows the water. The amenity list is pool, basketball, corn toss, dog park, pedestrian path, pickleball and playground.
Thurston Park, the fitness one
Thurston Park, 2259 Thurston Loop, opened November 1, 2024. The community describes airplane-themed playground equipment, pickleball courts, a basketball court, several fitness stations, an off-leash dog park, a fishing pond and pavilions. The site plan places the pool and pool pavilion next to a stormwater pond labeled for fishing, with outdoor fitness stops spread along the loop path. It sits on the north side, close to the phase five homesites the developer released in April 2026.
Kewadin Park, the southern one
Kewadin Park, 8064 Barr Boulevard, is the park the developer pairs with its newer southern neighborhoods. Its April 2026 phase seven announcement and July 2026 phase nine announcement both point buyers to Kewadin. The plan shows a pool and pool pavilion, playground, pickleball, a full basketball court, a pavilion and corn toss. No dog park is labeled, so the nearest off-leash area for a Kewadin household is another park.
When is the Middleton splash pad open, and what makes it different?
The Downtown Middleton splash pad at 2273 Dr. Randy McDaniel Way is open 10 a.m. to dusk, per the community's parks page as of October 2026. It opened April 6, 2025. Each water nozzle is individually controlled, and after sunset the jets are synchronized with colored lights for a nighttime show.
The splash pad sits between downtown buildings, a short walk from the restaurants and the Welcome Home Center. The community says it draws from a reservoir tank and pushes water through nozzles that can be sequenced into animated patterns, with separate zones for younger and older children. That design is why it is worth a second visit after dark: the light show is the draw in the evening.
Directly southwest, the downtown site plan shows Lake Eleanor Park, a small lakeside play area, and a kayak launch on Lake Eleanor. For the restaurants within a few steps of the splash pad, see our dated list of what is open in Downtown Middleton.
This week downtown: the community's Fall Mingle is Friday, October 30, 2026, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. in Downtown Middleton, with a DJ, games, inflatables, food and a costume contest starting at 6 p.m., per the community's event post. Check the post for any weather change before you go.
Can non-residents use Middleton's parks and pools?
The community does not publish a public park policy on its open website. Its resident portal lists a replacement park pass form and a pavilion reservation form behind a resident sign-in, which points to pass-controlled access for residents. Public forum posts disagree about the rest of the park, so call the Welcome Home Center at 352-751-7700 before visiting.
Here is what can be confirmed and what cannot, as of October 28, 2026:
- Confirmed: the MyMiddleton resident portal includes a replacement park pass form, a pavilion reservation form and a park maintenance request form, all behind a resident login.
- Reported, not confirmed: on a public Talk of The Villages thread, one poster says the pools open by gate pass for residents and their guests, another says posted signs reserve the parks for Middleton residents, and a third says the parks are open to all. Those answers conflict, so this post does not pick one.
- Not published: guest limits, guest fees, pool rules and whether the park pass costs anything.
One related point gets mixed up often. Middleton is developed by The Villages Development Company, LLC, according to the disclaimer on mymiddleton.com, but it is not part of The Villages, and a Middleton park pass is not a Villages ID. Whether any Villages recreation or pool access comes with a Middleton home is a separate question, covered on our Middleton vs The Villages page.
What new parks are planned in Middleton?
Middleton announced a Central Park in July 2025, described as a future hub with playgrounds, walking paths, water play, game spaces and a community center. The community said details were still being drafted and published no opening date. A 2025 parks map also labels a Leelanau Park that does not appear on the current list with hours.
The Central Park announcement is a vision statement, not a schedule. It mentions fishing, sports, shade and space for gatherings and celebrations, and it tells residents to watch the community newsletter for updates. The April 2026 phase seven announcement describes those homesites as having nearby access to the future Central Park, which is the closest thing to a location hint published so far.
The overall parks map on the community site, dated 2025, labels Leelanau Park north of Central Parkway between Lake Harlow and Thurston. It is not on the parks list with an address and hours as of October 28, 2026, so its status is unconfirmed. If a home's appeal rests on a park that is planned rather than open, treat it the way you would treat a coming-soon restaurant, and ask for the timeline in writing.
What public parks near Middleton are open to everyone?
The City of Wildwood runs public parks open to everyone, including Millennium Park and Bark Park at 1300 Huey Street, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park at 600 Walker Road with a splash pad, Oxford Park's pickleball courts at 4027 CR 106, Clarke Park and the Lake Deaton boat ramp, per the city's July to December 2026 program guide.
| Park | Address | What is there |
|---|---|---|
| Millennium Park and Bark Park | 1300 Huey Street | Playground, ballfields, multipurpose fields, basketball, airnasium, walking path, tennis court, pickleball courts, restrooms, dog park |
| Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park | 600 Walker Road | Playground, pavilion, basketball, athletic fields, restrooms, concession stand, splash pad |
| Oxford Park | 4027 CR 106 | Pickleball courts |
| Clarke Park | 605 Wilson Street | Community garden plots, basketball court |
| Lake Deaton Park and Boat Ramp | 5300 CR 155 | Boat ramp, fishing dock, restrooms |
Timing note: the city splash pad at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park runs April 1 to October 31, 2026, weather permitting, with fall hours of 2 to 6 p.m. on weekdays and noon to 6 p.m. on weekends. After Saturday, October 31, it is closed for the season. The guide also says the Millennium Park improvement project is nearing completion, with a grand opening still to be announced.
We have not measured drive times to these parks. Downtown Wildwood at City Hall is a measured 21 minutes and 12.4 miles from Middleton on our commute times page, so the in-town parks are roughly in that range. For more on the city itself, see the Wildwood guide.
How should parks factor into choosing a Middleton homesite?
Pick the park first, then the lot. The developer ties phase five homesites to Thurston Park and phases seven and nine to Kewadin Park, and each park offers a different mix. Check the walk or golf car route, whether the amenity you want is at your park, and what sits between your lot and the pool.
A short checklist before you sign with a builder:
- Match the amenity to the park. Tennis is only at Lake Harlow. Off-leash dog space is at Lake Harlow, Dry Creek and Thurston, not Kewadin. Outdoor fitness stations are at Thurston.
- Trace the route. The community describes pathways, tunnels and trails for walking, biking and golf cars. Look at whether your street connects to the park by path or only by road.
- Look at the edges. Lots that back onto a park get the view and the activity: pool and court activity during open hours, parking lots and event traffic.
- Ask what is still vacant. Central Park has no published location or date, so ask the builder what is planned on the parcels around your homesite.

The local take
I was born and raised in Marion County, and new Central Florida communities often sell the pool before the pool exists. Middleton is different in one useful way: four neighborhood pools and the splash pad are open now, with addresses and hours you can check today.
The trade-off people miss is that these are not four copies of one park. Lake Harlow is the lake and tennis park, Thurston is the fitness and fishing park, and Kewadin, the one the developer pairs with its newest phases, has no dog park on its plan. If you have a dog or play tennis, that changes which phase I would look at first.
What I would check before committing: who pays for the parks and how, because Middleton's fee structure is something this site has not yet verified, so get the HOA, district or amenity fee answer in writing from the builder; how guests get into the pool; and how far the lot really is from the gate on the path, not as the crow flies. I represent buyers independently, so I can ask those questions without a builder's script.
Frequently asked questions
Are Middleton parks open at night?
The four neighborhood parks are listed as open 7 a.m. to dusk, and the downtown splash pad 10 a.m. to dusk, per the Middleton parks page as of October 2026. The community describes the splash pad's synchronized light show as an after-sunset feature, so evening is the time to see it. Pool hours are not published on the public site; check with the Welcome Home Center.
Can I reserve a pavilion at a Middleton park?
The MyMiddleton resident portal lists a pavilion reservation form behind a resident sign-in, which means reservations are handled through the portal. Fees, time blocks and which pavilions can be booked are not published publicly. Residents can sign in to the portal or call the Welcome Home Center at 352-751-7700, open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
Where can I fish or kayak inside Middleton?
Lake Harlow Park lists both fishing and kayaking along its lakefront. Thurston Park has a fishing pond next to the pool. The downtown site plan shows a kayak launch on Lake Eleanor beside Lake Eleanor Park. For a bigger lake with boat ramps and fish camps, see our Lake Panasoffkee guide in the Living Journal.
Is Middleton an age-restricted community?
No. Middleton has no age restriction. It is developed by The Villages Development Company, LLC, but it is a separate community from The Villages. The parks described here are amenities inside Middleton, which is in the City of Wildwood in Sumter County, Florida.
Which Middleton park was the first to open?
Lake Harlow Park was first, with a grand opening in June 2023, according to the community's announcement. Dry Creek Park followed in November 2023, Thurston Park opened November 1, 2024, and the downtown splash pad opened April 6, 2025. Kewadin Park has no opening post on the public news page; the developer ties it to its 2026 home phases.
Is there a public splash pad near Middleton when the community one is busy?
Yes. The City of Wildwood splash pad at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park, 600 Walker Road, is public. Its 2026 season runs April 1 to October 31, weather permitting, so it closes after this week and should reopen in spring. Fall hours were 2 to 6 p.m. weekdays and noon to 6 p.m. weekends.
